Snack Pak 4 Kids is seeing a significant increase in the number of families in need

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Snack Pak 4 Kids has seen a significant increase in the number of families in need this summer, surpassing $120,000 spent since May.

“We thought we would serve about 4,500 students this summer. We average 6,500, so the need is there, the demand is there, and our volunteers have stepped up and rallied,” said Snack Pak 4 Kids Executive Director Dyron Howell.

The organization currently spends an additional $8,000 per week to serve the Amarillo area at six different locations.

“I see students from San Jacinto that I used to work with. I see students from Hamlet that I used to work with and it’s just, my God. It’s been four or five years and just seeing that we’re still meeting the need for those who need extra in a time like this,” said Will Rogers Elementary Principal Trishia Ruiz.

Snack Pak 4 Kids is run by a community of volunteers, including Bank of America.

The bank presented the organization with a $10,000 check to give back to the Snack Pak 4 Kids mission.

According to Howell, they don’t expect to see a drop in numbers when school resumes next month.
