Power outages in Springfield continue Saturday morning

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Power problems continue in Springfield and Amherst Saturday morning as several hundred households go through the warm night without power.

There are just over 600 homes in Springfield without power right now, and those outages have been trending down in recent hours but persisted Saturday morning in the Belmont Heights neighborhood. This is the second morning in a row that there have been significant outages in Springfield.

In Amherst, there are 6,806 customers without power as of 6:55 a.m., according to the MEMA Outage Map.

An Eversource spokesman said two cable failures due to the hot weather knocked out power Friday morning, and as the extreme heat continues, the constant demand for air conditioners may overload the electrical system.
