Middle notes: Beauchamp, Pistons, Burleson, Holland, Bulls

Former first round pick Marjon Beauchamp appeared in 100 games in first two seasons with USD, but has yet to establish himself as an indispensable part of the rotation, averaging 13.1 minutes per night since entering the NBA. Beauchamp will suit up for Milwaukee’s Summer League team for the third straight year and wants to show in Las Vegas that he’s capable of taking on a bigger role this fall, as The Athletic’s Eric Nehm details .

“I asked (Bucks head coach Doc Rivers) and said he wants me to play two games and after that it’s up to me. Beauchamp said to Nehm. “But really, I just want to do whatever it takes to get me on the field next year. So I sacrifice myself and I feel like I just have to go out there and be myself, of course, and show that I can guard and make open shots and just be able to play.”

While Beauchamp’s two years of NBA experience will give him an advantage over most of the other players in Vegas, the Bucks don’t just want to look to just put up big numbers, Nehm writes. Summer League Club Coach, Pete Dominguezsaid the 23-year-old wing was asked to focus on making the right plays when he gets the basketball.

“Doc was consistent with him,” Dominguez said. “Quick decisions. Don’t hold him. Shoot him, drive him, pass him. Quick decisions. That’s what we’ve been drilling with him all summer. I think that’s what he’s getting ready to really show in Las Vegas.”

Here’s more from the Central area:

  • The Buckets she’s getting a job Kevin Burleson as an assistant coach under JB Bickerstaff, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports (Twitter link). Burleson, who also served as an assistant in Memphis and Minnesota, was the head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston’s G League affiliate) the past two seasons. He previously served on Bickerstaff’s coaching staff for one season in Memphis (2018/19).
  • After his first Summer League practice in Las Vegas, the No. 5 overall Ron Holland spoke with The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III about his first few weeks as a member of the Bucketsexpressing appreciation that the team drafted him without hosting him for a pre-draft workout. “I did nine or 10 practices and they weren’t one of them.” Holland said. “Talking to (the Pistons) and my agent, I found out they looked at a lot of film and did a lot of background research on me. For them to still do all that and not be able to take me for a workout means a lot. It shows that they have a lot of faith in me and believe in my passion for the game. They see me as someone who can come in here and help turn the program around, and that’s a big blessing for me.”
  • The bulls they officially announced that Wes Unseld Jr. and Dan Craig it joins Billy Donovanhis coaching staff, as reported earlier in the offseason. The team’s announcement also included confirmation that assistant coach John Bryant was promoted to the head of the bank, Henry Domercant moves from his role as head coach of the Windy City Bulls to become a second-line assistant in Chicago and Billy Donovan III is the new head coach in the Windy City.
