Coast Guard helps 6 back to shore after ship capsizes off Port Canaveral

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A U.S. Coast Guard crew responded to an emergency call early Saturday after the captain’s ship flooded and capsized off Port Canaveral, helping to bring the six people aboard back to land .

Responding crews arrived and found a good Samaritan helping the group out of the water, the Port Canaveral Coast Guard Station said on social media.

The six people in distress were transferred to the Coast Guard’s 45-foot response boat to be transported back to shore, the station said.

Well done to the Zulu crew for getting all the civilians to safety!

According to the post, the distress call was issued on channel 16. The Coast Guard station recommended that everyone on the water keep a marine-grade radio tuned to channel 16 in case of such emergencies.
