Marion Dixon’s Obituary –

Marion Elizabeth Owen Dixon, 90, of Gloucester Point, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024. She was born September 5, 1933, in Richmond, VA to William and Elizabeth Owen. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Richmond Professional Institute and was an elementary school teacher for 25 years in both Hampton and Gloucester. As an educator, she realized that good reading skills are very important and tutored children during the summer holidays when needed. Marion was a longtime resident of Gloucester County and active in the community. She spent countless hours serving others as a member of the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad for over 20 years. She was a founding member of the Samaritan Group as well as the Gloucester Housing Partnership. Marion was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities – usually helping the children. She founded the XYZ group for the elderly. Marion was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Sid Dixon. She is survived by her children Beth Dixon, David Dixon (Donna), Susan Hutchinson (Brian) as well as grandson Andrew Hutchinson. She is also survived by her sisters, Eileen Mansfield and Nancy Jones. There are numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Christopher and Steven Grant, who mourn her passing. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery and will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. The Dixons would like to thank all the caregivers, family members and family friends who have done so much for Marion over the years.
