14 free ways to celebrate Independence Day around the Alamo City

While San Antonio has its share of patriotic July 4th events, several suburbs and cities in the area will be holding their own Independence Day events filled with parades, music, food and fun. Here’s a look at some notable upcoming holiday events in the area.

All of the events on this list are free, and many will have food and drinks available for purchase.

Independence Day Picnic in Shavano Park
June 29, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m
The City of Shavano Park will hold its annual Independence Day celebration before the 4th of July on the City Hall campus (900 Saddletree Court). The fun will begin with a mini parade, followed by children’s activities, music, food, a mini water park, patriotic pie and poster contests, petting zoo, pony rides and more. Dress accordingly.

Boerne Concert Band’s Independence Day Concert
June 30, 6:30 p.m
The Boerne Concert Band, an all-volunteer group, will play a variety of music in concert at Boerne Main Plaza (100 N. Main St.), including patriotic classics. The concert band will be joined by the Boerne Jazz Band.

Helots Independence Day celebration
July 3, 6 p.m
The City of Helotes will present its Independence Day Party at the Helotes Festival Grounds (12210 Leslie Rd.), with food and drinks for purchase, live music and fireworks. Attendees may bring chairs or blankets to watch the fireworks. Pets are not allowed, but service animals will be allowed.

Schertz’s 4th of July Jubilee
July 4, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m
The City of Schertz will present its 48th Annual Fourth of July Jubilee, kicking off with the Let Freedom Run 5K and a parade from downtown Schertz to Pickrell Park. From there, guests can enjoy a carnival that includes live music, pool activities, games and rides. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The evening will end with a fireworks display. The parade starts at Clemens High School at the intersection of Elbel Road and Schertz Parkway. Subsequent events will be held at Pickrell Park (703 Oak St.).

Alamo Heights Fourth of July Parade
July 4, 10 o’clock
Alamo Heights residents will hold their annual July 4th parade, which will begin at the intersection of Argyle and Patterson and end at Episcopal Diocese-West Texas Cathedral Park (111 Torcido Dr.). Anyone in the Alamo Heights community is welcome to participate in the parade, which will conclude with refreshments and the singing of patriotic songs.

Terrell Hills 4th of July Parade
July 4, 10 o’clock
The Town of Terrell Hills will hold its annual Independence Day Parade featuring pedestrians, classic cars and cyclists. The parade will begin at the intersection of Eldon and Ivy and end on Geneseo Parkway, where there will be a picnic with food, music, a petting zoo, children’s activities and a chance to check out a fire truck and a by the police.

Hollywood Park Independence Day Parade and Picnic
July 4, 10 o’clock
The Hollywood Park Community Association will help organize the city’s 4th of July parade, which will begin at City Hall (2 Mecca Dr.) and end at Voigt Park (701 El Portal Dr.), where visitors can hang out and enjoy by public. pool, splashpad and other activities around the park, as well as food, children’s activities and music.

San Antonio Stars and Stripes in the Houston Street Parade
July 4, 11 o’clock
The City of San Antonio will host the Stars and Stripes Street Parade downtown (518 E Houston St.), featuring vintage military vehicles, fire trucks, classic cars, marching bands, and local and regional cultural and heritage groups.

San Antonio’s 4th of July Celebration at Woodlawn Park
July 4, 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m
The San Antonio Parks Foundation and the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department will jointly present the official City of San Antonio Independence Day celebration, which will begin with a mini-parade around Woodlawn Lake Park (1103 Cincinnati Ave.) and fitness activities. There will also be food trucks, drink vendors, carnival games, a DJ, live music, children’s activities and more. A fireworks display over the lake will wrap things up.

Heart of Texas Concert Band presents “An Alamo City 4th”
July 4, 3 p.m
The Heart of Texas Concert Band will celebrate the nation’s birthday by performing with San Antonio’s River City Ringers in a patriotic concert at Trinity Baptist Church (319 E. Mulberry Ave.).

Leon Valley 4th of July Festival
July 4, 4 p.m
The City of Leon Valley will hold its 30th annual Fourth of July parade, a community event that will include food trucks, vendors, live music and a fireworks display. Stop by Raymond Rimkus Park (6440 Evers Rd.).

The City of New Braunfels presents 4th of July fireworks
July 4, 6 p.m
The City of New Braunfels’ Live @ Landa music series will conclude with a July 4th concert and fireworks display. There will be live music, children’s activities, food trucks and other activities leading up to a fireworks display at Landa Park (164 Landa Park Dr.).

Salute to San Antonio at Sunset 4th of July River Parade
July 4-6, 8 p.m
The San Antonio Riverwalk will be a patriotic scene with dozens of floats decorated saluting all branches of the military, featuring patriotic entertainment and more for three consecutive nights.

Boerne’s Independence Day Fireworks Show
July 4, 9 p.m
The City of Boerne will hold its annual 4th of July fireworks display at Boerne City Park (106 City Park Rd.). Food trucks will be on site, but visitors can bring their own snacks and drinks in canned or plastic containers.
