Nigel Farage hits out at Sadiq Khan after black taxis banned from flying English flag during Euros

Nigel Farage has slammed Sadiq Khan after London taxi drivers were banned from flying England flags during the European Championships in Germany.

The UK reform leader, who is seeking to enter the Commons as MP for Clacton, accused London’s mayor of “hating England” after TfL warned the capital’s 125,000 taxi drivers face tough penalties for flagging.

In a four-word post on social media, Farage said: “Khan really hates England.”

TfL announced its ban, which includes other symbols and flags, amid concerns it could distract drivers and other road users.

TfL’s guidance states: “Breaching the regulations could lead to a formal sanction – such as a warning, fixed penalty notice, prosecution or license review.”

A TfL spokesman added: “For the safety of all passengers and drivers, we have guidelines on what can be displayed in or on taxis and private hire vehicles.

“Only official signs and stickers may be displayed.

“Any other signage or flags are not permitted as they may distract other drivers and other road users.”

Farage’s latest row with Khan comes after years of in-fighting, especially since the pair fell out differently in the 2016 referendum on EU membership.

Khan, who won re-election as London mayor in May after criticizing Brexit, previously accused Farage of showing “staggering ignorance”.

Britain’s reform leader separately criticized Khan for extending his carbon reduction zone to the outer boroughs last August.

Farage’s comments about Khan’s flag ban come as Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions prepare for their final Euro 2024 group game against Slovenia tomorrow.

England beat Serbia thanks to a Jude Bellingham header in the opening game, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Denmark just days later.

Victory against Slovenia will likely seal England’s progress to the knockout stages as Group C winners.

Farage’s intervention comes as he also fell out with fellow Brexiteer Boris Johnson over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking in Maidstone, the former Ukip MEP labeled Johnson: “The worst prime minister of modern times”.

However, Johnson accused Farage of spouting “Kremlin propaganda” after the 60-year-old claimed the West had “stupidly provoked Putin” ahead of Russia’s attack on the former Soviet state.
