Severe thunderstorms possible in metro Milwaukee tonight: WI Weather

MILWAUKEE – Residents in the Milwaukee metro area should expect heavy rain and the chance of “severe” thunderstorms Monday night, the National Weather Service warned.

“Damaging straight-line winds and urban and small river flooding are the primary hazards,” the NWS said.

Specifically, a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to cross Milwaukee starting around 2am. “Strong straight-line winds and heavy rain are the primary hazards,” the NWS added.

Meanwhile, high rainfall rates combined with saturated soils from recent heavy rains could lead to more flooding.

Here’s the full NWS forecast from the Milwaukee airport:

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be strong. Low around 70. South wind 5 to 15 mph. Chances of precipitation are 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7am. Mostly cloudy, then becoming sunny and warm, with a high near 91. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light in the evening.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Light and variable wind becoming east 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1 am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Friday: A chance of showers, then a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chances of precipitation are 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible.

Friday Night: Showers and a possible thunderstorm. Low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. A 30% chance of precipitation.
