Doctor explains why Conor McGregor pulling out of UFC 303 was a good idea after toe injury

Orthopedic surgeon David Abbasi believes Conor McGregor made the right decision by pulling out of his fight with Michael Chandler.

McGregor was supposed to face Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but the fight was canceled earlier this month after the Irishman suffered a broken toe in the fight.

Shortly after news broke that the fight had been called off, “Notorious” shared several images of his injury on social media, which Abbasi took a closer look at during a video uploaded to his Instagram page.

“There’s an X-ray you can see there that shows a dark line through the bone — that’s a phalanx fracture line on the little finger,” Abbasi said before giving an estimate of how long it would take for McGregor. to recover from the wound.

“You can also see some bruising up there, that would take about four weeks to heal, like most bone fractures in someone younger and healthy.

“That would affect a fighter’s ability to put weight on their toes and get their weight forward.

“You can put the weight back on the heel and some fighters have pushed and wrestled with that, but that would definitely affect someone’s explosiveness and especially their kicking.

“That would definitely affect the ability to kick from both sides because of the inability to use your forefoot.

“Push punches, forget about it. So if this is in fact the injury I think we have, then it’s a legitimate reason to postpone the fight.”

McGregor is aiming to have his fight with Chandler quickly rescheduled.

In an interview with Severe MMA, McGregor insisted he will be ready to compete in two months.

Jake Paul unleashes Conor McGregor in vicious rant as he claims he’s ‘ruining his legacy’ after delaying UFC return

“I’d like it in August or September,” he said when asked about his potential return date.

“You know how things are. I’m in recovery mode. It happened three weeks ago. And I’m still here, rocking in my slippers.

“They’re not bad slippers, thankfully. They’re pretty comfortable, but I still can’t put them on.”

McGregor went on to reveal that they put stem cells in his leg in a desperate bid to stay on the card, but it didn’t have the desired effect.

“They came and took it from behind and put it in my leg,” he added.

“They put it in my leg, 20 milligrams from my back, from the bone marrow.

“Right at halftime. Then there was a little bit left, I said, “Yeah, throw it in the shoulder. I feel a little sore’.

“My shoulder actually feels amazing. Stem cell is a good thing. I really want to open my eye with that stem cell, but my toe hurts.

“I don’t know if the stem cell in the toe was the right move. You know how chickens put stuffing in their faces? My damn toe looks like this.”

“I don’t think it’s swelling anymore, it’s the stem cell in my toe. I will have a swollen toe all the time now. I do not know. I’m just recovering and taking it day by day.”
