Missing 5-year-old child with special needs dies after being found in Sandy Springs apartment pool

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The death of a 5-year-old girl with special needs who was found in a pool at a Sandy Springs apartment complex is under investigation, according to police.

The child, who Sandy Springs police said had been reported missing, was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. Friday in a pool at the Elme Sandy Springs complex.

“Without hesitation, a Sandy Springs police officer jumped into the pool and retrieved the child,” police said in a statement.

The child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she was pronounced dead.

The child has not been identified.
