Christian Eriksen tells England they were lucky, admitting his surprise at the poor display

Christian Eriksen has told England they were lucky to escape with a draw against Denmark.

England were well below par in the Group C match and the poor performance put pressure on Gareth Southgate. Denmark star Eriksen said: “They made more mistakes than I expected England to make in their warm-up game.

“We had our chances to win. We feel we should have and could have won the game, so we’re a bit disappointed. I was very much on the front foot. We had the conviction to play from the back and create chances. up front We were able to hurt them a little bit on the counter, but also with possession.

“We had some very good periods on the ball. All in all I made a very good game. We showed the belief we have and the qualities we have as a team.‌

“But we’re not there yet. This is another game on the road. It all comes down to the last game for us, which we go through – and get three points against Serbia.”

Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel added: “We were very disciplined and showed a lot of heart. For the most part we canceled out their threats. You always know with them Harry Kane is like a magnet, he slides in and finds space .They punish every little mistake.

“But when you look at our recent games against England, they are very even. It is the fine margins that decide the outcome. This was the same.

“Their goal was from a defensive error by us. Then they had a chance with Ollie Watkins, but other than that we kept them out of most things.”
