Illinois Commerce Commission Approves Three Railroad Crossing Improvements in Marion County

The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved a stipulated agreement to install new automatic warning devices and other public safety improvements at three railroad crossings in Marion County.

Projects include Edgar Road near Kinmundy, Laughman Road near Alma and West Line Road near Odin. All work should be completed within 18 months.

The total estimated cost of the signal design and installations is $1,512,762.

ICC staff recommended that the Level Crossing Protection Fund pay 95% of the cost. The Illinois Central Railroad Company will pay the remaining five percent, as well as all future maintenance costs for signals and circuits.

The total estimated cost to improve the existing highway approaches is $829,000, 100% of which will be covered by the Grade Crossing Protection Fund. Local road districts will be responsible for future maintenance costs on highway approaches.
