Scotland’s Porteous has been suspended for two games

UEFA has banned Scotland defender Ryan Porteous for two matches for “serious rough play” for his tackle on Ilkay Gundogan during the Scots’ 5-1 thrashing of Germany in Friday’s Euro 2024 opener.

Germany were leading 2-0 when Porteous was red-carded on the stroke of half-time after launching a two-footed challenge on Gundogan inside the box.

Kai Havertz converted the resulting penalty.

Porteous will sit out Scotland’s games against Switzerland on Wednesday and against Hungary on Sunday.

Scotland are hoping to progress past the group stage in a major final for the first time.
