Plans set for Evergreen Park Independence Day parade, look for marchers

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Evergreen Park, which distinguishes itself from surrounding communities by holding its “Fourth of July Parade” a day or two before the big day, is accepting applications for the village’s upcoming Independence Day Parade. Try to get applications in by June 21.

The parade starts at 18:30 on Friday, June 28. Fireworks go off at 9pm at Duffy Park, 92nd and Ridgeway. This year marks the 54th Evergreen Park Patriotic Walk on 95th Street.
The parade lines up at 95th Street and Springfield Avenue before heading east on 95th Street to Richmond Avenue and north on Richmond to 91st Street, where the parade disbands.

Thousands flock to Evergreen Park’s Independence Day Parade, which is considered one of the best in the southwest suburbs. This is an opportunity for companies and organizations to introduce their names. Make an amateur float, dress up your dog as Uncle Sam or Betsy Ross, get your Boy Scouts or Youth Squad together, form a marching band, decorate your bike or just dress up in a costume. Children and adults are encouraged to participate and contribute to the festivities.

Entrants who wish to have their entries announced as they pass the review stand enclose a 3X5 index card with their application and a description of their entry. This information will be used during the Comcast/Xfinity broadcast. Once the parade lineup is set, the village will notify participants of their parade number the day before the parade.

Prizes will also be awarded to the best entries. To be judged, someone in the unit must wear a sign with the entry number on the outer right side.

Judges will be stationed at various locations along the parade route. He will not stop in front of the reviewing stand for special routines. Special performances and routines will be judged along the way. The trophies will be presented at an upcoming Evergreen Park Village board meeting. Winners will be announced.

Nothing – absolutely nothing – should be thrown from the floats. Parade participants can hand out candy along the sidelines.

Plan now to attend the parade so you can get a good seat. Applications must be submitted by June 29. Registration fees are $25 for individuals, families, non-profit organizations, service clubs and places of worship; $75 for business; and $150 for political candidates, elected officials and political organizations.
