Man kills elderly parents, partner and himself in murder-suicide at SW Miami-Dade home – NBC 6 South Florida

A man shot his elderly parents and partner before turning the gun in a murder-suicide at a southwest Miami-Dade home Sunday, police and family members said.

Miami-Dade police on Monday identified the gunman as 62-year-old Jesus Regueira Jr.

According to police, Regueira shot and killed his parents, Jesus Regueira Sr., 83, and Mercedes Morato, 84, Kyrsten Stahre, 61, who police identified as -as his girlfriend, but family members said she was his wife. , before turning the gun on him.

The tragic scene unfolded at a home in the 4500 block of Southwest 137th Court in Kendale Lakes.

Officers were called to the home Sunday afternoon for a welfare check and found all four bodies. A gun was found lying next to Regueira Jr.’s body.

The bodies were first discovered by family friend Joanna Cruz, whose mother was bringing food to Morato, who was in care.

“He couldn’t cook anymore, so my mother came to feed him and he kept knocking and knocking and nothing. And he asked me to bring the key,” Cruz said Monday.

What he found inside was a bloody scene.

“I saw the elderly lady on the bed and the body of the elderly man on the left bed with blood coming out of the mouth and the wife in the other room,” Cruz said. “I feel like I’m in a nightmare.”

The woman’s stepson told NBC6 that he had been trying to get in touch with her for the past three or four days, but had not heard back. When he went to check on her, he found her and the others dead as well.

Kerstyn Stahre’s sister spoke to NBC6 on Monday and said she was shocked because her brother-in-law was not a violent person.

“I think the problem was that his mother had a severe stroke and was in the hospital, and his mother was his life. Because someone said he wasn’t doing well. My mother was there, but she had a hospice. His mother was his favorite person in the world. I don’t know about the father, but I just know that this probably happened,” said Carol Miloch.

Miloch said she believes Regueira killed her sister because she said she herself had a mental health disorder and may have felt she couldn’t be alone without him.

Catholic Health Services and Catholic Hospice confirmed that Morato is one of their patients.

“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased at this deeply difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences and support as they navigate this tragedy, the organization said in a statement. We are a Catholic healthcare organization dedicated to the well-being and safety of our patients and we are cooperating fully with the authorities.”

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said health workers who were at the home last week raised concerns.

“They were just worried about the son because he seemed to be emotionally unwell,” the neighbor said.

She said the workers, who made daily visits, could not enter the house on Thursday or Friday.

“They kept calling the phone and knocking on the door, and that’s when I called 911 on Friday, but they didn’t see any movement inside, no reason to open it. They didn’t know if they left or what,” the neighbor said.

Police said all four people lived in the home.
