Lava lamp ignites fire in a three-family home in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A lava lamp accident led to a bedroom fire in a three-family home on Oakland Street in Springfield Thursday.

According to the Springfield Fire Department, crews were called to 397 Oakland Street at approximately 3:18 pm for a reported fire on the third floor of a three-family home.


The fire was extinguished quickly, and there were no casualties as a result of the incident. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad confirmed the fire started when a lava lamp was knocked over and accidentally broke, igniting nearby combustibles on the floor.

This incident serves as a reminder for residents to be careful about the placement and stability of decorative and electrical items in their homes to prevent such accidents.
