China ready to block Taiwan independence

SINGAPORE – Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said on Sunday that China’s armed forces were ready to “forcibly” stop Taiwan’s independence, but renewed his call for further talks with the United States.

The statement at an annual security forum in Singapore followed the first substantive face-to-face exchanges between the two countries’ defense chiefs in 18 months.
