Milk supply banned in Loitoktok – Kenya News Agency

The Loitoktok local government has banned the sale of milk in Loitoktok sub-county as a measure to improve food security.

During the 61st Madaraka Day celebrations held at the Oloitiptip Stadium in Loitoktok, Loitoktok Deputy County Commissioner Antony Maina said the ban is aimed at ensuring that milk sold in the sub-county is safe for consumption.

This comes after allegations of putting chemicals into milk for preservation, citing that milk can last as long as five days without spoiling without refrigeration.

DCC also banned the use of plastic containers in transporting milk to cooperatives or milk depots, instead emphasizing the use of aluminum containers.

Maina asked everyone to follow all the regulations set in the field of milk and food in general to ensure food safety.

The administrator also expressed concern over the increasing cases of burglary in and around Loitoktok town, urging the public to report any suspicious persons and cooperate with the security apparatus to end the vice.

In his speech read by Milka Ndung’u, an administrator from Oloopon area, Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku applauded the Ministry of Tourism for its commitment to implement the presidential directive on Amboseli National Park.

Ole Lenku praised the 11 group farms in the region for donating about 1 million acres of land as conservation.

On the nuisance of Ipomea weed which chokes the growth of palatable vegetation for livestock, he said he has engaged youths to physically pull the weed and dispose of it properly through the initiative called Ng’oa Ipomea.

The Madaraka County celebrations were held in Kajiado Central.
