Three men convicted of killing Paul Billion in Sioux Falls

Three Sioux Falls men were sentenced this week to significant prison terms in South Dakota State Prison for the Aug. 17, 2022, robbery and murder of 36-year-old Paul Billion.

All three accepted plea deals within the past year and pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, Minnehaha court records show.

The three people involved in Billion’s death were sentenced on Wednesday:

  • Gbo Wesfort Yuoh, 21, of Sioux Falls, was sentenced to 75 years in prison

  • Thomas Tarley, 21, of Sioux Falls, was sentenced to 65 years in prison

  • Sooteman Poley, 20, of Sioux Falls, was sentenced to 50 years in prison

A fourth man arrested in connection with the case, Carnell Lavar Jimmerson Jr., 21, of Sioux Falls, was charged with theft in connection with the stolen weapons, but later received a change of plea in July 2023 to firearms rated at less than or equal to. at $2,500. His sentencing hearing is June 14 at 9 a.m

All three convicted men were in their late teens at the time of the murder.

On August 16, 2022, just before midnight, Billion was heard inviting random people he had just met at a Shell gas station to his home.

Billion was found dead on August 19, 2022, at a home in the 1300 block of South Duluth Avenue. Three projectiles were removed from the victim’s body. Police determined that all three shots were fired from the same gun, which had been reported stolen by a Florida man. A fourth shot missed Bill, court documents show.

According to court documents, police used surveillance footage and city cameras to identify the suspects.

The Minnehaha County Coroner performed an autopsy and determined the cause of death to be homicide by gunshot, according to earlier reports by the Argus Leader. He had been dead for several days.

The police also used photos and videos posted on social media, namely Snapchat and Instagram, along with the geolocations of the suspects’ phones, to find out where they were at the time of Billion’s death and also to prove that they were in possession of certain firearms, including the gun used to kill Billion, according to court documents.
