Vancouver police have arrested a child predator after a two-year investigation

VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) – A man was arrested in April 2024 on various child molestation charges and received additional charges Wednesday, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The man arrested has been identified as Daniel Gray of Portland.

Gray is charged with two counts of first-degree rape of a child, two counts of first-degree child molestation, dealing with images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, three counts of possession of images of a minor involved in explicit sexual behavior. conduct and second-degree possession of representations of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct

An investigation into Gray was launched in May 2022, based on a series of reports by Gray’s family members and their friends, who alleged that he had sexually abused young girls in his care for decades and photographed the victims. The reports were believed to be credible, but the statute of limitations for criminal charges against Gray had expired.

The detail and depth of the statements indicated a deep pattern of sexually predatory behavior that could be constrained because the time period of the originally reported abuse was very short.

Investigators sought more information and evidence from Gray’s circle of friends, family and associates, many of whom were reluctant to talk to police.

Through a series of interviews over nearly a year, detectives identified a number of very young girls who had been in contact with Gray.

An interview provided a detailed series of contemporary rapes and sexual assaults.
